Volunteer Spotlight: Dick and Elaine DeLisle
Dick and Elaine DeLisle began delivering meals with FeedMore WNY two years ago after hearing about the increased need for volunteers on the local news. Looking for ways to help neighbors in the City of Buffalo, the couple started delivering meals from our East Buffalo delivery site. Today, Dick and Elaine deliver two routes each weekday, bringing nutritious food to community members who are homebound or living with a disability.
“For many people, the meals we deliver are not only sustenance but also provide needed human contact on a daily basis during the week, as well as a check-up on some who may be dealing with health problems,” Dick and Elaine DeLisle said, when asked about the importance of volunteering. “Without volunteers, the meals could not be delivered.”
Their community service over the years extends to many other parts of the region as well, including nearly three decades of work with Habitat for Humanity and through their church outreach program.
Since joining the FeedMore WNY volunteer family, Dick and Elaine have noted the impact they can make with just one lunch hour each day.
“We have delivered an estimated 2,000 meals over that time and have met many wonderful, friendly people who are so grateful to receive their meals. We are both 81. If our good health continues, we hope to be be at Meals on Wheels every day for some time to come.”
