9-Year-Old Harrison’s Food Drive: An inspiring story of impact

When 5-year-old Harrison learned that food insecurity was on the rise in Western New York during the height of the pandemic in 2020, he and his family felt compelled to help. Harrison organized a neighborhood food drive and drove up and down his street in his Power Wheels to collect donations for FeedMore WNY. Harrison’s efforts resulted in approximately 400 pounds of food to provide to Western New Yorkers in need.

For the past five years, Harrison has held an annual holiday food drive for FeedMore WNY, donating hundreds of pounds each year to nourish neighbors of all ages. This year Harrison collected over 550 pounds of food! As food insecurity continues to grow, Harrison’s donations are vitally important to alleviating hunger in Western New York. Harrison also collects toys and money donations each year for Toys for Tots to ensure children in our community have magical holiday seasons.

When he is not giving back to his community, Harrison, now age 9, is a fourth grader at Iroquois Intermediate School. He loves the outdoors and animals of all kinds. Harrison enjoys playing a variety of sports, especially bowling, baseball and Ninja Warrior obstacle courses. He also gives back to the community as a Cub Scout.

Harrison was recently honored as the AFP Young Philanthropist for his outstanding contributions to the community. Through his dedication and passion for giving back, he has made a significant impact, inspiring others to get involved and make a difference. This recognition celebrates his hard work and commitment to creating positive change.

Harrison is proof that it is never too early to make an impact. He is a shining example of philanthropy – not just among his peers, but for all Western New Yorkers.
