Providing comfort, even from a distance
For many seniors in our community, moving out of a well-loved home isn’t an appealing idea. It means leaving nearby friends, a familiar neighborhood and so many memories.
Although many people feel happier living at home, being alone can pose serious challenges as we age. Grocery shopping can be hard for someone with mobility issues. Cooking balanced meals can be physically taxing. On top of that, extreme weather conditions and occasional feelings of isolation don’t make it easier.
For family members like Laura*, sister of Beverly*, these are all real concerns. Laura lives in Maryland, and Beverly, who is not able to shop and cook for herself, lives in Western New York. In recent years, Laura has stepped up as Beverly’s advocate and arranged for her sister to receive home-delivered meals from FeedMore WNY.
“Beverly said the drivers were always friendly,” Laura said, while also noting that the food was delicious.
FeedMore’s caring volunteers are not just friendly — they’re observant, too.
If anything appears out of the ordinary, or if someone fails to answer their door to receive their meal, we make sure that a social worker follows up immediately.
Now, Laura is relieved that her sister can receive a weekday check-in and regular healthy meals. Both sisters are comforted by the service that FeedMore WNY and our volunteers provide.
