Kindness is essential to making
a difference for people in need

Buddy Watson knows what it’s like to not have enough to eat at home.

As a child, he often lived for periods of time with his grandmother when his father, a soldier, was deployed. His grandmother frequently needed food assistance to help make ends meet.

As an adult, Buddy has made it his mission to help ensure his neighbors don’t have to go to bed hungry.

For the past seven years, Buddy has hosted the “Buddy and Friends April Foods Raffle” for FeedMore WNY at the Lockport General Motors Plant where he works. The raffle has been so successful that Buddy launched an additional food and fund drive to take place during the holiday season. He says these events wouldn’t be possible without the support of General Motors.

Buddy is thankful for the life he leads today, which he credits to the help he received along the way.

“When there were times that I experienced hunger, there was always a friend there to help. Now, I want to be that friend. I want to be able to help,” he said.

He encourages others to give back to their community when they can, noting that you don’t have to have a lot of money to make a difference.

“The need is there. I’m going to do everything for the rest of my life to help feed those in need,” he said.
